Supporting Student Community Involvement

A Better Ontario provides structured, primarily virtual community involvement opportunities for secondary school students. Students contribute to public-interest projects while developing practical skills in research, communication, critical thinking and independent work.

How the Program Works

Students choose an available initiative and request a School Approval Package from A Better Ontario. The package outlines the proposed activity, expected duties, supervision and estimated hours so the student can bring it to Guidance for review before beginning their hours.

What Students Do

Students complete structured assignments using publicly available information. Activities may include researching community issues, organizing and comparing information, identifying gaps, developing ideas and recommendations, and contributing to larger community-focused projects.

Supervision & Hour Verification

A Better Ontario provides orientation, instructions, ongoing availability, work review and feedback. Students maintain a record of their activities and time spent. Hours are verified based on work actually completed, not simply the estimated time assigned to an activity.

Student Safety & Privacy

Activities are designed to be completed remotely and do not involve field investigations or direct involvement in sensitive matters. Only information reasonably necessary to administer and verify the student's participation is collected.
